What's New In Vuforia Expert Capture?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Vuforia Expert Capture 3.19.0 release:

APIs and Integrations:
Self-Service with PTC Service Principals

We have been tirelessly working under the hood to make our APIs more expansive and easier to use so that you can integrate as-run procedure data or procedure execution data with your systems and workflows. In this release, we are happy to announce that our APIs are now compatible with PTC Service Principles. With service principals, admins can go into the PTC Admin Center, create the service principals, and immediately use the APIs. No requests to tech support, no waiting—just immediate self-service APIs when you need them!

Where can I use procedure data?

Our APIs offer access to a list of published procedures and retrieve run data and image feedback based on a procedure ID or serial number. Get started with our new APIs today to make AR an essential part of your workflow by connecting to other business systems, for example:

  • Connect to your Learning Management system to ensure your employees have met training requirements before starting new tasks in the field.
  • Connect to your Field Service Management System to record the completion of procedures executed as part of service and maintenance tickets.
  • Connect to your servers to store an audit history of the procedure and step completion status (pass/fail), including images captured during execution, for proof that work was completed as expected.
  • Connect to other work systems to enable frontline workers to directly access the Vuforia Expert capture catalog in their daily task management tool.

How to Create and Manage Service Principles

But that's not all!

With each release, we have a ton of new improvements. Here are just a few other highlights from the last releases:

  • Step Check™ Auto-Proceed on 'Pass' or 'Fail' - Authors can now configure Step Check to auto-proceed when the work was done correctly (pass) or incorrectly (fail).
  • iOS/Android  - Improved highlighting effect makes it easier for your workers to see through highlighted objects and not obstruct their view of the real-world object.
  • Depreciation: GET Method for Accessing Procedure Execution Data - Please be aware that the GET method for Accessing Procedure Execution Data will be deprecated in the 3.21.0 release (early 2025). Going forward, we recommend using the POST method.

What's New In Vuforia Expert Capture?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Vuforia Expert Capture 3.18.0 release:

New: SSO Auto Provisioning
The fastest way to give your users access

We are excited to announce that SSO auto provisioning is now available for Vuforia Expert Capture! If you are an administrator, you will now find the option to add SSO auto provisioning to your environment. Once activated, any new users who authenticate via SSO will automatically be added to your organization with the appropriate system role.

This is great news for admins looking to remove a layer of overhead when adding new users. Not to mention, it is the fastest way for users to get the information they need. Simply sign in with SSO for immediate access to view a procedure. No more requests or waiting—just instant access.

How to Enable SSO Auto Provisioning

Step Check:
New enhancements for more efficient work

For this release, we have launched enhancements to help users get more out of Step Check while spending less time in setup and review:

  • New Filter options - the following new filter options are available from the Filter menu on the Step Check dashboard: 'Unsure', 'Guided Training', and 'Continued Training'.
    • The 'Guided Training' and 'Continued Training' filters are a great new addition for anyone looking to optimize their Step Check procedures by first analyzing the efficiency of your training images.
    • You can also now use the 'Usure' filter to compile a list of all collected images that could not be identified as a "Pass" or "Fail" - another great starting point to help you decide if you need to improve object training, light conditions or other conditions for your procedure.
  • Step Check guided training on iOS/Android  - The Step Check guided training dome now automatically scales with the distance to the object to give users more flexibility when training Step Check.

This release is packed with a bunch of these little gems to help you work more efficiently. To view the full list of Step Check enhancements, click below to view our complete release notes.

But that's not all!

With each release, we have a ton of new improvements. Here are just a few other highlights from the last releases:

  • Switch Organizations - Users can now switch organizations from the web app.
  • Vuforia Editor  - An issue was resolved where a 3D procedure with more than 200 custom views was able to be sent for approval, even though the technical limit for custom views was 200.
  • Vuforia Editor - An issue was resolved where the selection drop-down sometimes displayed the location names of the other procedure's Capture when switching from a newly created Capture-based procedure to a procedure with a different Capture.

New Feature: Step Check™ for Part Markers
Faster step creation with improved accuracy & robustness

This makes it quicker and easier to create your Step Check procedures - simply click the part you want to enable for Step Check, and you are done! Enabling Part Markers for your end users also allows them to perform checks quicker and easier - since the part itself is enabled for Step Check, they now have a full 360° range of view around the entire part and our AI will guide them to the most optimal viewpoint.

But that's not all! To make Step Check for Part Markers possible, we have done some serious work under the hood to improve our in-house AI. The result is improved accuracy and robustness for you and your users, especially when dealing with cases where the viewing direction is essential.

What's New In Vuforia Expert Capture?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Vuforia Expert Capture 3.11.0 release:

Auto Proceed: New Step Check feature for
 fast-paced inspection environments

AI enhanced Step Check just got even smarter! 'Auto Proceed' is a new mode that helps frontline workers navigate demanding inspection procedures more quickly and efficiently. When enabled, users are automatically advanced to the next step if Step Check has determined a ‘Pass’ state.

With Auto Proceed, you ensure that your employees spend most of their valuable time focusing on failed steps that need their attention - while keeping the peace of mind that all the steps (Pass and Fail) will continue to be documented in the final protocol for reporting purposes.

To turn on Auto Proceed - simply navigate to the Step Check tab inside Editor and select Auto Proceed from the drop-down.

Confidence metrics:
Understand the reliability of your Step Check procedures

Our new confidence metrics let your editors/authors know how reliable a Step Check procedure is before it's rolled out to the shop floor. The goal is to get as close as possible to 100% for the most accurate results. So, don’t forget to turn on ‘Continue Training’; this will collect more AI training data in the background with each procedure usage. And, once you are confident, why not turn on Auto Proceed?

Your editors/authors can find the confidence metrics data directly in the Step Check dashboard and Step Check tab. A new column titled Confidence is available that displays a numerical value for each step. These numerical values indicate the system’s current confidence in the Step Check performance. You can use this number to either ensure you are rolling out appropriately trained procedures to your workers or watch it grow as each usage adds to the AI training data.
